On October 11, the Boston Bruins came back from a 1–2 deficit, scoring four consecutive goals and beating the Montreal Canadiens 6–4 on Thursday for their ninth consecutive home win.
Mark Kastelic scored his first goals as a Bruin, including a crucial insurance goal with 4:00 minutes remaining to prevent Montreal from scoring two goals off the bounce of the ball.
Cole Koepke and Elias Lindholm each had a goal and two assists, while Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak (one goal, one assist) scored two goals each, his second goal in as many games.
McAvoy became the second defenceman in Bruins history to score in the first two games of the season.
Nikita Zadorov and Brandon Carlo also had two assists each.
Jeremy Swayman signed an eight-year, $66 million contract extension with the Bruins and made 21 saves in Game 1 on Sunday.
Montreal’s Brendan Gallagher scored twice and Cole Caufield scored twice.
For the Canadiens, Boston College player Len Hutson had two assists in his fourth career game, completing his first multi-point game, while Oliver Kapanen scored his first NHL goal.
Kayden Primeau (23 saves) lost his season opener.
With 1:37 left before the first intermission, Lindholm put Zadorov’s shot between Primeau’s legs to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead.
Taking advantage of Zacha’s hard work, Pastrnak hit a shot with 4 minutes and 04 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
Only 55 seconds later, Koepke passed to John Beecher in the offensive zone and shot the loose puck into the goal late in the game to make the score 5–2.
Josh Anderson scored for Montreal at 9:05 of the third period by hitting a long shot past Swayman’s net.
Gallagher scored with 4:17 remaining in the game, and Kastelic scored on a breakaway after sneaking past a defender.
At 8 minutes and 26 seconds of the game, Gallagher headed in Joel Armia’s shot and the visitors took the lead in the scoring.
McAvoy rose to the top of the left circle and scored at 11:04, helping Boston win the game.
Montreal regained the lead just 1:14 later when, following Kaiden Guhle’s penalty kick, an unscreened Caufield fired a loose puck that stopped at the left post. The star winger has scored in two consecutive games since the start of the season.
At 13 minutes and 24 seconds, Zadorov slid the ball towards the dome from the left side and wristed the ball into the goal, making the score 2–2.
