September 11 – Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber left Tuesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays because of a sore left elbow.

The Phillies’ leadoff hitter hit a 437-foot homer in the first inning to tie Alfonso Soriano with his 14th leadoff home run of the season. Soriano set the old record in 2013 with the New York Yankees.

Schwarber, who has 45 career leadoff hits, walked to load the bases in the bottom of the third inning. He injured his elbow while jumping back to first base in an attempt to make the catch.

He soon scored on Trea Turner’s home run, but on Schwarber’s next call in the fourth inning, Buddy Kennedy came in to pinch-hit.

Schwarber, 31, hit his 35th home run of the season and raised his batting average to .251 before opting out. He has 95 runs batted in and 98 walks, a league-high in 134 games this season.
