September 11 – Major League Baseball suspends Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Edwin Uceta for three games for intentionally using a 96 mph fastball the night before. The ball hit Nick Castellanos.

The suspension will begin Wednesday unless the USETA appeals the decision. He was also fined an undisclosed amount, MLB said in a news release.

Rays head coach Kevin Cash also received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine.

The incident occurred in the eighth inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Uceta hit Castella after giving up a game-winning two-run double, an RBI single, Trea Turner’s two-run homer and Bryce Harper’s double to North. The benches and bullpen were empty, and Uceta was ejected.

Uceta, 26, is 2-0 with a 1.49 ERA and has two saves in 25 relief appearances this season, his first with the Rays.

Both teams will conclude their three-match series on Wednesday.
