Sept. 9—The Cleveland Browns believe David Njoku is suffering a high ankle sprain Sunday night, according to multiple media reports.

Njoku suffered the injury with 10:37 left in the third quarter of Cleveland’s 33-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Sunday’s season-opener. The Browns thought there was a problem with his return, but he never returned.

After the game, Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski did not provide any information on Njoku’s status but said the 28-year-old would be evaluated on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

Several reports said Njoku left the stadium with a boot on his right foot.

On Sunday, Njoku gained a team-high 44 yards on four catches.

Njoku became a Pro Bowler for the first time last season when he caught 81 passes for 882 yards and six touchdowns in 16 games (all starts).

Jordan Akins is currently the only tight end on the Browns’ depth chart.
