Sept. 13 – Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz suffered an ankle sprain in last Sunday’s season opener against the Indianapolis Colts, with several media reporting Thursday that he is still insisting on playing.

According to reports, the injury, suffered during the 29-27 win, was not serious. But the team kept Schultz out of practice Wednesday and Thursday because of the ankle problem. The Texans host the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.

Against the Colts, the 28-year-old Schultz caught three passes on three targets for 16 yards. Last season, his first with the Texans, he played in 15 regular-season games (eight starts), catching 59 passes for 635 yards and five touchdowns. He also had six catches for 80 yards and a touchdown in two playoff games with Houston.

He signed with Houston after five seasons (2018-22) with the Dallas Cowboys. In his career, he has 273 catches for 2,773 yards and 22 touchdowns in 91 games (60 starts).

Safety MJ Stewart also did not practice Thursday as he continues to deal with a knee/quadriceps injury. He will reportedly miss Sunday’s game, according to KPRC-TV in Houston.

The only Texans players who practiced Thursday were wide receiver Nico Collins (illness), running back Damien Pierce (hamstring) and offensive lineman Jace Scruggs (groin).
