Sept 18 (Askume) – Football’s governing body FIFA and the World Health Organization (WHO) launched a global brain injury awareness initiative on Wednesday in partnership with brain health experts.

The “Doubt and Safety: No Match is Worth the Risk” initiative aims to highlight the risks of traumatic brain injury and provide resources on the topic, they said in a joint statement.

“By understanding the symptoms of a brain injury, being aware of the risks and treating the injury appropriately, you can help put player safety first,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) was tested in MarchThe permanent concussion substitute was approved and the rule was implemented in this year’s America’s Cup .

World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said there was a need to raise awareness of concussion at all levels of sport.

“WHO is proud to work with FIFA to promote ways to protect the brains of football players,” he said.
