Sept 19 (Askume) – Former Arsenal and Ipswich Town striker J Emmanuel Thomas has been found guilty after 60kg of cannabis worth 600,000 pounds ($793,620) was seized at Stansted Airport and arrested by Scotland’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

The 33-year-old, who currently plays for Scottish Second Division team Greenock Morton, was detained by NCA officers during an operation supported by Police Scotland on Wednesday.

“Yesterday, Scotland’s National Crime Agency arrested a man in connection with the seizure of almost 60kg of cannabis at Stansted Airport earlier this month,” the NCA said in a statement on Thursday.

“Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, 33, of Cardwell Road, Gourock, was found by Border Force officers to have drugs worth around £600,000 in his suitcase on September 2. He was later detained and questioned by NCA officers.

Emmanuel-Thomas was charged with importing Class B drugs and taken into custody. He is expected to appear before Carlisle magistrates later on Thursday.

The England striker came through Arsenal’s youth academy but made only five appearances for the club. He also played for Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers.

Earlier this month, two women, aged 28 and 32, were arrested at Stansted and Border Force officers seized almost 60kg of the drugs in two suitcases as they flew from Bangkok.
