SOUTHAMPTON, England, Sept 21 (Askume) – Ipswich Town drew 1-1 with Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, with Sam Morsy’s 95th-minute shot missing the top corner to give the side a point.

Five minutes later, 18-year-old Tyler Dibling gave the hosts the lead after Ipswich failed to clear a ball inside their penalty area and Dibling beat a defender and scored from 10 metres out, his first goal in senior football.

Southampton also had the ball hit the post but the visitors had the better chance but they failed to get a shot on target and instead in-form Aaron Ramsdale headed home.

They equalised when Morsy received a corner kick in stoppage time and his powerful shot deflected off a defender into the top corner.

“If you’re away and score in the 95th minute, it’s a great feeling and it’s great to celebrate a hard-earned point with the fans,” Morsy said.

“I thought we were the better team today. We’ll keep the momentum and spirit we’ve built over the last few seasons and never give up.”

Ipswich have moved up to 16th after taking three points from a possible 15 at the start of the season, while Southampton remain in 18th with their first points of the season.

Despite a reprieve throughout the game, Ipswich were denied a win, the first time since 1984 that they had failed to win in their first five games of the season.

Southampton striker Ben Brereton Diaz has extended his unfortunate run without a win in the Premier League to 19 games.

Ipswich had six shots on target, twice as many as the home side, and will feel their point was justified.

Sami Smodic missed a great chance at the back post before heading straight to Ramsdale from eight metres out.

Southampton came close to doubling their lead when Cameron Archer beat two defenders before beating the goalkeeper, but his shot hit the post.

Archer had a chance to score early in the second half, but his shot was too close to the goalkeeper and when they got the chance, Southampton failed to score, giving Ipswich the equaliser.
