Sept 11 (Askume) – Excellent performances from Brian Bromby and Joshua Zirkzee in the Netherlands’ first two Nations League games have eased concerns over a lack of depth in the forward area in the coming months.

Head coach Ronald Koeman said he was pleased with the pair’s performances against Bosnia and Germany and Depay’s concern remains who will replace Memphis if the 30-year-old’s future at the club remains uncertain.

Depay, who has scored 46 goals in 98 games and is second on the Dutch all-time scorers list, has signed with Brazilian club Corinthians and could return to play for the Dutch club when the competition resumes.

Gilgi, who joined United in July, scored on his international debut, helping the Netherlands open their Nations League campaign with a 5-2 win over Bosnia in Eindhoven on Saturday.

Ajax forward Bromby, 22, was given a chance to prove himself against Germany after his marker Jonathan Tah was hauled off the field at half-time in the 2-2 draw in Amsterdam on Tuesday, with his performance proving the team’s defence was too strong.

“Tah’s change didn’t come for no reason,” Koeman said. “He pulled Brobbey’s shirt five times and was fouled each time. Brobbey did a good job of stopping him.

“Brobbie scored the second goal as well. I’m very happy with him. He got the chance and it’s great that he took it. I’m glad I picked him. He’s quick and sharp. Strong.”

Gikoulo, 23, was not ruled out on Tuesday but was praised by Koeman, who has already announced that Gikouzi will play in the first game and Brobbey in the second.

“Joshua is strong and together with Tijani Reynders he makes a good team,” Koeman said on Saturday.
