PARIS, Sept 14 (Askume) – Dembele’s two goals and a superb header from Fabian Ruiz helped Paris Saint-Germain beat Brest 3-1 in Ligue 1 on Saturday to move top of Ligue 1.

Goals from Fabian and Dembele 80 seconds apart in the second half gave defending champions PSG 12 points from four games, one more than Marseille and Monaco, who won their opening games on Saturday.

“Brest is a good team with some very good players. It’s always difficult to play against them. It’s nice to win in front of the fans,” PSG coach Luis Enrique told DAZN.

“We try to do this every day and I am happy to see my team play. During halftime, I told them they played well and they should not focus on the score. I told them they have to continue playing.”

Romain del Castillo put Brest ahead from the penalty spot just before the half-hour after Nuno Mendes fouled Ludovic Aholc.

In the 42nd minute, Asensio delivered a precise pass, Dembele scored with a header and Paris Saint-Germain equalised the score in the 73rd minute, Fabian scoring with a superb long shot to help the team take the lead.

Seconds later, Dembele pounced on a loose ball following a counter-attack and sealed the points with his second goal.

Dembele, 27, said: “I hope I can play some amazing games, continue the good performances and help Paris Saint-Germain win.”

“It is important to win because others (title contenders) have won. We have to be leaders at the end of the day and be ready for the Champions League. We have eight exciting games ahead of us now.”

The capital side will aim to continue their winning streak in the Champions League when they host Hellas Verona in the first game of the league stage on Wednesday.

Brest, last season’s surprise Ligue 1 team, hosts Sturm Graz in its first Champions League match on Thursday.
