Sep 11 (Askume) – Midfielder Christian Pulisic saidNew United States coach Mauricio Pochettino could bring a fighting spirit to the national team after their 1-1 draw with New Zealand on Tuesday .

Ben Wynn’s late equaliser in Cincinnati overshadowed Pulisic’s goal and the AC Milan winger said he hopes he can perform at his best for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at the highest level, requiring an aggressive mindset and ability to take risks.

The Argentine coach, who left US Premier League side Chelsea in May after one season, will lead the team’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The US team has been without a permanent head coach since its humiliating exit from the Copa America on home soil in July.Gregg Berhalter was fired after his second stint as head coach.

“It’s time to start a new chapter. We really have to get to the next level,” Pulisic told reporters Tuesday night.

“It feels very depressing now but I know better times are yet to come. Hopefully he (Pochettino) can bring a culture that is ready to fight, ready to take risks and win.”

“There are a lot of things that need to change, just the mentality and culture of the team. I think we have the potential, but I know that’s the first thing he wants to change.”

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said he decided to join American football not only for the football but also to travel around the country and he could not miss the opportunity.

The U.S. team will play its next friendly against Panama on Oct. 12 and will face Mexico three days later.
