Sept 12 (Askume) – Scrumhalf Morne van den Berg will replace injured Grant Williams in the South Africa squad for the potentially decisive Rugby Championship test in Argentina on Sept. 21, officials said on Thursday.

World Cup winner Williams played a key role in Cape Town’s 18-12 win over New Zealand on Saturday but has been ruled out with a hand injury.

Van den Berg made his debut in a 64-21 win over Portugal in July and also started in Perth’s 30-12 Rugby Championship win over Australia last month. There are two other defenders in the Springbok squad: Jaden Hendricks and Kobus Renck.

The South African team rested several key players in the Argentina Test and finished first with 18 points from four matches. Second-placed Argentina have 10 points, if they win, they will be ranked fifth in history.
