September 12 – French second seed Clara Burel and third seed Diane Parry suffered the latest upsets on Wednesday, losing in the second round of the Tunis Jasmine Open in Monastir, Tunisia.

Just a day after fourth seed Nadia Podoroska and fifth seed Jaqueline Christian exited in the first round, Slovakia’s Rebecca Slamkova beat Burel 7-6 (4), 7-5, while Ukrainian qualifier Yulia Starodubtseva defeated Parry 6-4, 6-3.

Staro Dubtseva saved six break points and her fourth match point in the nine-two final to record her first win in the round of 60. Throughout the match, she saved 12 of 13 break points, while Perry saved 3 of 6 break points and hit 6 aces.

Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo beat Croatia’s Jana Fett 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the other 2024 quarterfinal match. British qualifier Sonja Cattell, ranked 151 in the world, defeated Romania’s Cristian before beating Japan’s Mai Mototamayama 6-2, 6-2 in 78 minutes.

Guadalajara Akron Open

Kamila Rakhimova defeated third seed Victoria Azarenka in the second set after falling behind 6-2, 3-0 during the WTA 500 Tour quarterfinals in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Belarusian Azarenka, ranked 19th in the world, has double-faulted 5 times and failed to solve her 5 break-serve opportunities. Russian player Rashimova converted all four chances without committing a single double fault.

Sixth seed Marie Boikova of the Czech Republic defeated Alexandra Eala of the Philippines 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets in the first round. But seventh seed Veronika Kudermetova of Russia could not avoid falling to Colombian 7-6(5), 6-7(2), 7-5 in three sets in the second round.

Other first-round winners include Marina Stakiucik of Canada and Magdalena Frech of Poland.

On Wednesday, second-ranked Danielle Collins will face Olivia Gadecki of Australia, and Martina Trevisan of Italy will face Renata Sarasua of Mexico.
