SAO PAULO, Sep 18 (Askume) – Social media platforms

Last month, following a month-long dispute between X owner Elon Musk and Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes, the Supreme Court ordered Brazilian mobile and internet service providers to shut down the platform within a few hours.

But Brazilians used the platform again on Wednesday, in what some described as a move by Musk to violate the law.

But X later said it had “inadvertently temporarily restored” service for Brazilian users due to a change in network provider.

X’s global affairs team posted on the social media platform that the change was made due to a shutdown that meant some infrastructure would no longer be available in other parts of Latin America.

However, X said that Brazilians’ access to the platform would soon be blocked again.

The Brazilian Association of Internet and Telecommunications Providers (ABRINT) reported that the X update had redirected some Brazilian users to third-party cloud services abroad, leaving them unable to access the platform without a virtual private network (VPN) license.

Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel is working to notify content delivery network providers and telecom companies to block access again. How long will it take to enforce the order?

Basilio Perez, a member of Abrinth’s board of directors, said any revised order from Anatel, which is responsible for implementing the court’s ruling, must be carefully worded.

He said blocking access to the cloud is complex and could put government agencies and financial service providers at risk.
