BENGALURU, Sept 19 (Askume) – U.S. chipmaker Analog Components Inc (ADI) (ADIO.O) on Wednesday said it has signed a deal with Indian salt conglomerate Tata Group to explore production of semiconductor products in India.

Tata Electronics, the electronics manufacturing arm of the 156-year-old conglomerate, is investing a total of $14 billion to set up India’s first semiconductor manufacturing plant in Gujarat and a wafer assembly and testing plant in Assam.

Earlier this year, India gave the green signal to the construction of Tata Group’s semiconductor factory .

Analog Devices said in a statement that Tata Electronics and ADI intend to explore opportunities to manufacture the products at Tata Electronics’ facility in Gujarat and ADI’s facility in Assam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pushing India to compete with global semiconductor powerhouses such as Taiwan and aims to make India the world’s chipmaker despite initial setbacks.

Earlier this month, the western Indian state of Maharashtra said the Adani Group and Israel’s Tower Semiconductor (TSEM.TA)US$10 billion will be investedchip project . The semiconductor unit of infrastructure giant Larsen & Toubro (LART.NS) , which designs automotive chips, is alsoThere are plans to eventually build a factory .

Under the agreement with ADI, Tata will also use the chip maker’s products in electric vehicles at Tata Motors (TAMO.NS) and telecom infrastructure at Tejas Networks (TEJS.NS), the companies said .

The companies did not disclose which products would be manufactured in India and which would be used by Tata.

Multinational companies such as NXP Semiconductors (NXPI.O) and Micron (MU.O) have announced plans to invest and set up facilities in the country.
