BRASILIA, Sept 20 (Askume) – The social media platform owned by Elon Musk will address one of its donation requests.
André Zonaro and Sergio Rosenthal, who were recently appointed as X’s lawyers in Brazil, told Askume that colleague Rachel de Oliveira Conceição had been chosen to represent the company and that they had appointed her to the Supreme Court.
Brazilian law requires foreign companies to appoint a legal representative to conduct business in the country. This representative will handle the company’s legal responsibilities locally.
X had a legal representative in Brazil until mid-August and has since decided to close its offices in that country.
In late August, Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered mobile and Internet service providers to block X in the country , and users were disconnected a few hours later after X failed to appoint a new legal representative.
The move comes after a months-long dispute between Musk and Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes over the company’s failure to comply with a court order requiring the company to take action against the spread of hate speech.
Courts have previously blocked accounts involved in investigations into spreading misinformation and hate, which Musk denounced as censorship.
On Thursday, a lawyer representing X in Brazil said the company had begun complying with an order to remove content, another requirement of the Supreme Court.
