When Westman Atelier announces a new product, we all listen. But when Gucci’s Westman explains how to use the product, you need to pay attention. I whipped up a note-taking pen and asked a team of celebrity makeup artists to tell me all about the popular beauty brand’s recently launched Westman Atelier concealer.

As a fan of anything created by Gucci Westman, I’ve learned that the results of using each product are enhanced not only by the thoughtful ingredient composition, but also by the smart and often airy application – leaving skin looking like skin while eliminating all dirt-related problems from your complexion. Fine lines and wrinkles become less noticeable. Blemishes gradually disappear. Pores are minimized. One might think that applying the new Westman Atelier concealer is as simple as dabbing it on until dark circles disappear, but there’s a real way to do it; the results you want require just one simple step: Prep your skin.

“Proper skin care is key,” she tells Ask. “Doing skin care before applying concealer helps prepare the skin.” Her personal routine includes applying Westman Atelier’s Skin Activator (a serum that repairs the skin barrier and smooths the appearance of fine lines) and Supreme C (a 100% pure vitamin C serum). Both serums effectively remove makeup after cleansing the skin. After settling the concealer vs. foundation debate, Westerman next applies her complexion drops. Once you’ve blended the subtle shades with a brush, it’s time to apply concealer — exactly where you need it.

For Westman, your concealer choice is just as important as skin preparation. “You want to make sure it’s not too thin and that it sets on its own, so you don’t need a lot of powder,” she instructs. “You want to be confident that it won’t penetrate your pores or fine lines, and you want the tone to be nice and the texture to be as fine as possible.”

Enter: the Vital Skincare Concealer. As Westman explains, a key feature of her brand’s latest offering is its self-styling capability with soft-focus pigments that give skin a luxurious blurring effect — concealing pores and fine lines without settling into them. This blurring feature is her top priority when creating concealers. “I’m always concerned about pores and I know that [texture] is more about mature skin,” she adds. It absorbs into skin like a facial moisturizer, eye cream, or primer, so “skin feels energized without feeling concealed.”

It’s one of the things that’s drawn me to this formula since it launched a few weeks ago. The dovetail applicator is the perfect size for concealing pimples, dark spots, or wiping under eyes. Blend it on with your fingers or a small, thick makeup brush. Its texture is incredibly creamy and it provides buildable medium to full coverage for a unique airbrushed look that minimizes the need for setting powder. That doesn’t mean you can’t apply powder afterward to keep your look in place—Westerman and I both do, but it’s nice to know you have the option. She uses the “fine,” feather-light Vital Powder, which she says “absorbs excess oil without stripping your skin of its lovely glow—it’s almost like a filter.”

Apart from the blurring, I love the shade range of the concealer. Out of a total of 16 shades, shade T4 is my perfect shade – a perfect match for my neutral undertone. However, T2 provides a warm golden undertone that is perfect for brightening and correcting dark circle pigmentation. Dark circles can also be tackled with a powerful blend of skincare ingredients: hyaluronic acid, peptides, coffee leaf extract, as well as licorice and gentian root, which brighten, plump, hydrate and soothe all skin types with continued use, bringing comfort.

Westerman admits, “If I were to blindfold myself and compare this to my favorite concealer, I would choose this one without knowing all of these factors, just because of its performance, quick drying, and ease of application.” This is a concealer that’s hard not to love—it’s the best concealer I’ve ever tried—and it offers a skin-like beauty filter IRL blurred effect for all skin types. We’re always impressed with Westman Atelier’s launches, but this one raises the bar even higher.
