The spring 2025 fashion shows may be over, but the CFDA has one more title for you: The Council of Fashion Designers of America has announced the winners and nominees for the 2024 CFDA Awards.
Last November, Thom Browne held his first CFDA Awards ceremony as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America at the American Museum of Natural History. There was a giant whale on the ceiling, and smaller whales swam over the crust of chicken pot pie for dinner. Anne Hathaway waxed poetic about the joys of fashion in a Ralph Lauren denim gown. Serena Williams received the Fashion Icon Award from last year’s Fashion Innovation Award winner, Kim Kardashian.
The awards will return this year on October 28 and will once again be held at the museum. Amazon Fashion will continue as an awards partner, and Shop with Google will present the U.S. Emerging Designer of the Year Award.
In a touching tribute, the CFDA Board of Directors renamed its eponymous award the Isabel Toledo Board Tribute Award in honor of national iconoclast Toledo. She will receive the award posthumously; her husband, Ruben Toledo, will accept it.
This year, Stuart Vevers will represent Coach at the Amazon Fashion Innovation Awards for Coachtopia, the brand’s innovation lab focused on sustainable, waste-reducing and circular fashion. “When we began envisioning Coachtopia, we saw it as an experimental lab, a dedicated space within Coach to design the world of the future,” Coach’s creative director Stuart Vevers said in a statement. “Coachtopia has influenced the way we design
other members of the coach, but my biggest hope is that it inspires others, even other industries, to join us
A journey to build a better future for the next generation. I am honored to be recognized
Because of a belief in the possibilities of experimentation and design.
Schiaparelli’s Daniel Roseberry will receive the International Designer of the Year award, while Michael Kors will receive the Positive Change Award for his work fighting hunger through Watch Hunger Stop, God’s Love We Deliver and his support of the United Nations World Food Programme. The Media Award in Memory of Eugenia Shepherd will be presented to Annie Leibovitz, while the winner of the Founders Award in Memory of Eleanor Lambert will be Hamish Bowles. American fashion legend Stephen Burrows will receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award and well-deserved flowers.
Khaite’s Catherine Holstein has been named women’s fashion designer of the year for the past two years, but this season she’s absent from the category: will Tory Burch win the big prize this year, or will Diotima’s Rachel Scott pull off an upset? This year, CFDA president Thom Browne was nominated twice for both the menswear and womenswear awards, can he rock both? Will perennial nominees Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen of The Row add another accessories designer of the year award to their names?
“This year’s nominees and winners represent American fashion creativity and excellence,” said CFDA CEO Steven Kolb. “As our largest fundraiser of the year, the CFDA Fashion Awards presented by Amazon Fashion make a significant contribution to the CFDA Scholarship Fund to support the designers of tomorrow and the future nominees and winners of this special evening, and we thank Amazon Fashion for recognizing their leadership.
