CAIRO, Sept 18 (Askume) – Sudan’s army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) say they are ready for a peaceful solution to more than 17 months of war. They saidThis was in response to US President Joe Biden’s call to resume negotiations with the warring parties .

Army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said on Wednesday that the Sudanese government is ready to make all constructive efforts aimed at ending the war, while Doctors Without Borders leader Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo said on Wednesday that the Fore had expressed similar views.

“We reaffirm our commitment to the ceasefire talks, we believe that the path to peace lies in dialogue, not in random violence, and we are committed to the peace process to ensure a future free from fear and suffering for all Sudanese citizens,” Dagalo said on X.

However, the two leaders accused each other of failing to end the conflict that began in April 2023 and has killed more than 12,000 people, as well as abuse of power. They did not outline specific steps to reach a peaceful solution.

The conflict began as a rivalry between the military and Doctors Without Borders, who shared power after the coup, before escalating into open warfare.

US-led mediators said last month they had received assurances from both sides in talks in Switzerland to improve access to humanitarian aid , but the absence of the Sudanese military in the discussions has hampered progress.

“We are ready to work with all international partners to find a peaceful solution that will alleviate the suffering of our people and return security, stability, rule of law and democratic governance to Sudan,” army chief General Burhan said in a statement.
