TORONTO, Sept 17 (Askume) – Canada’s new housing starts fell 22% month-on-month in August, data from the national housing agency showed on Tuesday, driven by lower multi-unit housing starts in cities.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation said the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts fell to 217,405 units from a revised 279,804 units in July. Economists had expected construction work to fall to 252,500 units.
