TOKYO, Sept 9 (Askume) – The Asian Development Bank said on Monday that President Masatsugu Asakawa has announced he will resign on Feb. 23, 2025.

According to a report by the Yomiuri Shimbun earlier on Monday, JapanSet to support former senior financial diplomat Masato Kanda as the next ADB president .

Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said in a statement that Japan hopes to nominate the most suitable person as a candidate as soon as possible.

Japan’s Finance Ministry declined to comment on Kanda’s nomination.

Asakawa, Japan’s former top monetary diplomat, took over as ADB governor in January 2020 and has overseen the Manila-based bank’s measures to help the region’s economies cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new ADB president will be selected through an “open, transparent and merit-based process” in accordance with the bank’s charter, the development bank said in a statement.
