TOKYO, Sept 28 (Askume) – Japan’s incoming Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba may nominate his rival Shinjiro Koizumi to head the ruling party’s election committee in Friday’s leadership race , public broadcaster NHK reported on Saturday.
There is speculation over who Ishiba will appoint to his Cabinet when he forms a government on Tuesday after winning the Liberal Democratic Party’s presidential bid.
Jun’ichirō Koizumi, a former environment minister and son of the former prime minister, finished third out of nine candidates in the LDP election.
Former Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba said on Friday he planned to hold an early general election, likely within the next 13 months.
