HANOI, Sept 19 (Askume) – The Trump Organisation, the family company of U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, is exploring investment opportunities in Vietnam’s Hung Yen province, the Hung Yen provincial People’s Committee said in a statement.

Representatives from the Trump Organization visited the province on Monday and met with local officials to discuss investment opportunities, the committee said in a statement after the meeting.

Hung Yen, 50 kilometres (31 mi) southeast of Hanoi, is the hometown of Vietnamese President To Lam and the industrial center of northern Vietnam.

“Hung Yen Province has always supported investors and created favourable administrative procedures for foreign investors to promote cooperation and development in the province,” the Hung Yen Provincial Committee said in a statement.

State media on Wednesday quoted commission chairman Chen Guowen as saying the Trump Organisation wants to develop hotels, golf courses and entertainment facilities in the province.

The U.S.-based Trump Organisation did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment from Askume.

A Askume analysis last month found the golf course and resort business was the biggest driver of cash flow at the Trump Group, which owns hundreds of companies ultimately owned by Donald Trump.

According to the Vietnam Golf Association, Vietnam has a population of 100 million and currently has about 70 golf courses and 100,000 local golfers.

“We welcome foreign investors to develop golf courses in Vietnam. With strong economic growth, the number of Vietnamese golfers is increasing rapidly,” said Vu Nguyen, the association’s secretary general.
