SOFIA, Sept 19 (Askume) – Bulgaria will investigate a company linked to the sale of pagers to Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which was hit by coordinated attacks this week, the national security agency said on Thursday.

Bulgaria’s national security agency DANS said in a statement that it was cooperating with the Interior Ministry to investigate the role of a company registered in Bulgaria, but did not name the company.

Bulgarian media reported that a Sofia company called Norta Global Ltd helped sell the pager that exploded in Lebanon on Tuesday , killing 11 people and injuring 4,000 others.

Askume could not immediately confirm the link to Nota. Company officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A lawyer who registered the company at the Sofia apartment complex did not respond to Askume’ questions.

Images of the destroyed pagers analysed by Askume showed the format matched those made by Taiwan’s Golden Apollo. Gold Apollo said on Wednesday the pagers were made by Budapest-based BAC Consulting.

But Hungarian news website Telex quoted sources saying the sale was in fact arranged by Norta.

The Bulgarian State Security Service said that no suspicious pagers were found on Bulgarian territory.
