AYDIN DIDIMI, Turkey, Sept 14 (Askume) – Hundreds of people waving Turkish and Palestinian flags gathered on Saturday to remember the day Turkish-American activist Aydin Didim was killed in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Turkish Vice President Shevdatte Yilmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus and main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Ozgur Ozel attended a ceremony in Didim, a city on Turkey’s Aegean coast.

The 26-year-old’s coffin was accompanied by a guard of honour and draped in the Turkish flag.

“Ayşenur Eygi’s blood is as sacred as the blood of every Palestinian martyr and we will adhere to it until the end. As a Turkish nation, we are fully committed. As a nation, we are fully committed,” Kurtumus told reporters.

On 6 September, Aji was killed while participating in a protest against settlement expansion in the West Bank.

Israel acknowledged that its soldiers shot the activist, but said it was an unintentional act that occurred during a demonstration that turned violent.

“He was shot directly behind the left ear. May God have mercy on him and may his soul rest in peace in heaven,” Kurtams said.

Ankara saidInternational arrest warrants would be requested for those responsible for intentional killings .

US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris said on Wednesday that Iggy’s killing was unacceptable and Israel must do more to ensure it does not happen again.

Kurtumos said Turkiye would ensure “the case is pursued until the end.”

“We will hold them accountable in all international courts. Yesterday, we completed the testing of all the bodies as per international standards,” he said.

Prayers for Aji were held in several Turkish cities, including Istanbul and Ankara.
