JERUSALEM, Sept 19 (Askume) – The Israeli military said on Thursday it was striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon ahead of a speech by its leader.

It also said military chiefs had approved plans for northern Israel, bordering Lebanon.

The army says Hezbollah has turned southern Lebanon into a war zone.

“For decades, Hezbollah has weaponized civilian homes, dug tunnels beneath them, and used civilians as human shields,” the report said.

It said, “The Israel Defense Forces are working to bring security to northern Israel while achieving all of the war’s objectives to enable residents to return to their homes.”

A separate military statement said Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Hezi Halevi recently completed approval of the plan for the northern region.

The statements came minutes before a speech by Hezbollah leader Sayed Hassan Nasrallah, his first since Iran-backed Lebanese groups blew up thousands of radios and pagers.

Attacks on Hezbollah communications equipment have killed 37 people and wounded nearly 3,000, raising fears that all-out war is inevitable.

Israel has neither confirmed nor denied being behind the attacks, but some security sources have said they were carried out by its spy agency, Mossad.
