LONDON, Sept 14 (Askume) – A former defence secretary and former prime minister have urged British Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles on Russian territory, the Sunday Times reported on Saturday.

According to the Sunday Times, the call came from five former Conservative defence secretaries – Grant Shapps, Ben Wallace, Gavin Williamson, Penny Mordaunt and Liam Fox – and former prime minister Boris Johnson.

According to the Sunday Times, he warned Starmer that “any delay would embolden President Putin”.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has for months urged his allies to allow Ukraine to launch Western missiles, including US long-range missiles and British Storm Shadow missiles, inside Russia to limit Moscow’s ability to strike Iran.

Starmer and US President Joe Biden met in Washington on Friday to discuss whether Kiev should be allowed to use long-range missiles against Russian targets. No decision has been announced.

Some US officials are deeply skeptical that allowing the use of such missiles would have any significant impact on Kiev’s fight against Russian bombers .

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if the West allows Ukraine to be attacked with long-range missiles made by the West, it would lead to an all-out war with Russia.
