Sept 10 (Askume) – Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) will recall 98,806 electric SUVs to repair door handles because they do not provide adequate protection from water, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday.

NHTSA said the recall involves ID.4 electric vehicles from the 2021-2024 model years that feature door handles that may not meet factory entry safety specifications.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says water seeping into the printed circuit board of a vehicle’s door can cause the lock to malfunction, causing it to open.

The auto safety regulator said Volkswagen dealers will inspect and replace door handles as needed and update vehicle software free of charge.
